Hello everyone. Today I would like to talk about chords. What is a chord? a chord is multiple notes that play at the same time. Actually, there is another word that can answer the same definition that calls “Harmony” . what is the difference between harmony and chords? The truth is that they are really similar to each other. Harmony is created when we have at least 2 voices that play at the same time and chords are created when we have at least a minimum of 3 voices that play at the same time. the basic chords I will talk about, for now, are chords called “triad”. “triad” is a chord with 3 notes that play together. After we will understand those things we can continue to the next subject.

In the example above we can see a C major chord. The right-hand plays the notes C-E-G and the left-hand plays the root. what is “Root” ? well… every chord has a root and this note is played most of the time by the bass guitar player. for example, if we have a C major chord with the notes C-E-G. The root will be the note C. Also the chord is named by the name of its root. That’s it for today. If you want to know more about piano and music theory make sure to keep following my posts. Have a great day!
